Publication Date: April 3, 2012
Genre: YA Romance/YA Historical/YA Paranormal/Suspense/Adventure/Mystery
Series: His Fair Assassin
List Price: $9.99

Synopsis:

Why be the sheep, when you can be the wolf?
Seventeen-year-old Ismae escapes from the brutality of an arranged marriage into the sanctuary of the convent of St. Mortain, where the sisters still serve the gods of old. Here she learns that the god of Death Himself has blessed her with dangerous gifts—and a violent destiny. If she chooses to stay at the convent, she will be trained as an assassin and serve as a handmaiden to Death. To claim her new life, she must destroy the lives of others.
Ismae’s most important assignment takes her straight into the high court of Brittany—where she finds herself woefully under prepared—not only for the deadly games of intrigue and treason, but for the impossible choices she must make. For how can she deliver Death’s vengeance upon a target who, against her will, has stolen her heart?

My Opinion:

Grave Mercy is a unique read that has never been written before. I find the author to be immensely talented and delightfully creative. She has developed a whole new world! There is nothing more boring than reading a book that is the exact replica of another book. Fortunately, this is not one of them.

Book is so...fascinating! There is so much to learn, like the "nine saints" of Brittany. I have never heard of this stuff! Fabulous stuff is found throughout the pages of Grave mercy.

When Duchess Anne was mentioned, I realized she was young, but I never figured her to be twelve years old! A 12 year old Queen? Dear lord. Things were VERY different back then.

As much as I loved to read the adventures Ismae (fantastic name, by the way. So unique!), I did have one thing that I had a problem with:

There were a lot of places where the writing didn't flow as smoothly as I would have hoped. It became awkward to read in a few spots. I can't tell you how much I hate awkward lulls.

My favorite parts to read in this book were in the beginning. I loved it when the nuns where teaching the girls how to kill their (shudder) prey. It was so creepy, but awesome as well, and a little humorous, too if you're weird like me. These Sisters of Mortain are CREEPY (in a fascinating way)!

I never really enjoy a book that is written in present tense, but the obvious research that Ms. Lafevers did makes up for it. In all, I didn't hate it.

Recommendations?

This book is recommended for all YA romance readers, as well as historical and adventure lovers. I enjoyed reading it, and hopefully you will as well!
